Falcon Sport

Tennis PlayerNorth Sydney Boys High School is lucky to have an extracurricular sports organisation that gives boys a structured way to get together, have fun and participate in local competitions. Run by volunteer parents under the guidance of the P&C, Falcon Sport complements and extends formal school sports.

Falcon Sport provides after school and weekend sporting opportunities for all North Sydney Boys students.  Opportunities are available for the boys to participate in skills coaching and training as well as a variety of competitions.  Approximately half of the North Sydney Boys students participate in Falcon Sport, many in two or even three sports.

The sporting experience at the school contributes to the boys' personal development by:

Additional sports may also be introduced to the Falcon Sport program if there is sufficient interest from the boys as well as parental assistance available for coordination of the sport.

Any persons interested in being involved with the management of Falcon Sport should please contact Barbara Hill on 0418 270476.

Basketball

Basketballers Huddle Basketball is a fairly new sport to many of us but it forms part of a long tradition at this school, first introduced (as a summer sport) in 1960, with the 1st team finishing as runners up in the C.H.S. competition the following year. In the 2010 season Falcon Basketball will continue the tradition of fielding teams in the North Shore Basketball Association (NSBA) competition. Teams will play in Under 13, 14, 16 & 18 grades. Grading, training and the competition starts in February 2010 (usually Week 1).

The aim is to accommodate all boys who wish to play basketball in NSBA competitions. If the NSBA is over subscribed we may try to place a team in one of the alternate competitions that are available in the area. We prefer a team size of 8 players and places cannot be guaranteed for late registration.

Orienteering

What is Orienteering? Orienteering involves finding your way across country using a detailed map and usually with the help of a compass. It can be enjoyed by both young and old, as a relaxing recreation or as a competitive sport.
An orienteering course involves visiting a number of locations in the bush in the correct order. These locations, called controls, are marked with orange and white flags. Some typical control features are track junctions, creek bends, and boulders.
At the start of the course, the competitor is given a map on which the course is marked. Orienteers have to find their way to each control, taking whichever route they choose.
Typical route choice decisions involve deciding whether to go over or around a large hill, to follow tracks all the way in comfort, or to strike out through the forest taking a short cut to save time (Orienteering Association of NSW website, http://www.nsw.orienteering.socialfx.net/NewToOrienteering/, 7 Feb 2007).
