A selective school of excellence
The aim of sport at North Sydney Boys' High School is to promote
pleasurable involvement in physical activity; cognitive, aesthetic,
expressive, physical and social development; fitness and health; and,
positive attitudes and good "sportsmanship". It is believed that sport, through the achievement of these aims, will complement the other school programs and hence produce a well rounded individual, well equipped to participate in the wider community.
Sport at North Sydney Boys' High is considered to be very important in the development of our students and so is compulsory for all except Year 12. Its structure, however, is designed to cater for individual interests, gifts and talents. Students have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of activities as individuals or as part of a team; from the very active to the more passive; and in recreational or representative areas.
Recreational -Badminton, basketball, fencing, fitness training, golf, ice skating, indoor climbing, taekwondo, lawn bowls, squash, surfing, swimming, table tennis, tennis, ten pin bowling, touch football, ultimate frisbee and volleyball.
Year 7 has a special program of sports in Term 1, where they participate in a number of sports for 3 or 4 weeks. Teachers and outside coaches/development officers coach the boys in AFL, rugby, touch football, soccer, baseball and swimming.

The school enters teams in a number of state-wide knock-out competitions including Australian football, basketball, cricket, fencing, hockey, lawn bowls, rugby, soccer, squash, tennis, touch football, volleyball and water polo.
Annual carnivals are held in athletics, cross-country running and swimming. Students displaying talents at these school carnivals have the opportunity to compete at higher levels in Zone, Regional and C.H.S. carnivals.
Teams of North Sydney students compete in a variety of sports at weekends or on week nights. Details of the sports available are published from time to time in the Falcon Bulletin or by pupil-post. These teams operate under the auspices of the Parents and Citizens Sports Committee.
Student success in Wednesday afternoon and after hours representative sport, knock-out competitions and carnivals is recognised by the school with individual pennants and trophies which are presented at school assemblies and at our annual presentation day. Outstanding performances are recognised with the presentation of achievement awards and half and full blues.

A major event on the school sporting calendar is the annual sporting and cultural exchange with Melbourne High School for the Crawford Shield. This exchange takes place on a rotational basis usually in March of each year. Each school fields teams in cricket, athletics, water polo, swimming, basketball, squash, tennis, lawn bowls, table tennis, chess, golf, fencing, sailing and debating. Music students from each school are also involved in combined workshops and performances. Netball was included for the first time in 1998.
