A New Library

In 2012, the year of our centenary, we will begin the expansion and renovation of the RF Harvey Library.  The library (in its current location) opened in 1959 and our students have long outgrown it and need more space and contemporary resources.

Library RenderThe newly expanded library will be a fitting legacy to the centenary celebrations of North Sydney Boys High School.

Our library will be designed to meet the needs of our students today and in the future.  It will be flexible to meet differing demands.

It will facilitate contemporary teaching and learning strategies underpinned by resourced based learning.  It will give us the opportunity to deliver an education appropriate to gifted and talented boys.

  • A large general learning space accommodating class groups allowing access to print and electronic resources and facilitate both independent and cooperative learning.
  • Seminar rooms to provide spaces for groups to work independently of the primary group, accommodate extra and co-curricular programs and accommodate group study.
  • Flexible areas of seating for smaller groups to work on projects.
  • A senior study area for the exclusive use by senior students with access to ICT and print resources of particular relevance to them.
  • A quiet 'recreational' area with comfortable seating and appropriate lighting to encourage reading and board games such as chess.
  • The infrastructure to support future technology.

The Falcon Foundation is funding and overseeing the project and with a long history of successfully delivering projects to the school including the total refurbishment of the AF Henry Hall, we are confident of a great result.

Library Progress

Our next step: awaiting DA approval
The plans for the library extension and renovation are now with North Sydney council for Development Application approval.

Geoff Larkin and Don Bergomi, our architects from Stephenson & Turner International, have consulted with the council during the development process, so we hope for a smooth transition through this stage.

As you can see from the images of the external view of the new library, it will be an impressive building.  It will not only deliver our school community a library befitting the students, but also allow us to improve and update surrounding areas.

The extension will allow us to bring the façade of the school into the 21st century as well as provide a more appealing and functional entry to the school.

Library Front

As you can see from the front view, the students will enjoy wonderful northern light as they study at these windows.  The extension to the south side of the school will also provide much needed all weather recreation space for the boys below the extension.

Library Back

We are very fortunate to enjoy dedicated support by our community who have raised nearly all the necessary funds for the project, although we still need to raise more so we can fully deliver the internal fit out.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all current and past students and families for such generous support. To fully fund such a significant project on community-raised funds alone, is testament to the strong community that is North Sydney Boys High School.

If you would like to be part of the project that will create a legacy to our Centenary, you can make tax deductible donations to the library project via our Centenary store.
