A selective school of excellence
The North Sydney Boys School Council was founded in 1991. Important functions of the Council include assisting the various organisations operating in the school to develop co-ordinated programs and priorities and encouraging communication between these organisations, the school management team and the Student Representative Council. The Council also provides an opportunity to learn about our community, the school's operation and future directions and to help put in place strategies to realise these objectives.
Who is on the School Council?
Council membership is intended to provide representation to as many stakeholders in the school as possible. Details of council membership are spelt out fully in the Council Constitution. The current Council consists of
The School Office can provide names and contact details of current Council members.
When and Where does Council Meet?
Council meets 3 times a year, usually in February, June and November in the school’s conference room. Details of the dates and times of the Council meetings are published in the school calendar.
Members of the school community are welcome to attend council meetings as observers. If Council is required to deal with issues of strict confidentiality it may be necessary to exclude observers but this rarely occurs. Council agendas are full. If a school community member wishes to raise an issue at Council, contact should be made with the representative appropriate to your concern on Council in advance to ensure that the item is put on the agenda.
Council addresses issues that it has specifically identified as current projects, which can be wide ranging. Of necessity, much of the work of the Council is conducted through working groups, with reports and recommendations coming back to the Council meetings. This committee system works well as it enables Council to draw upon the expertise of many within the school community. The school's regular bulletins contain a report on recent School Council activities.
